The King James Version of the Bible was first published in 1611. It was the world of 47 scholars who translated it 'out of the original tongues' of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, 'with the former translations diligently compared and revised.' Part of their work was done in the ancient University City of Cambridge.One of the 'former translations' was the Geneva Bible, so called because the translations was carried out by English-speaking exiles living in Geneva, Switzerland.
